
Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19th, 1959)[2] is an American actress. It is well-known for her performance across many categories on screen and stage over a three-decade career. Janney received numerous accolades including the Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Her work earned seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Janney was also nominated for Two Tony Awards. Janney was born in Boston but was raised within Dayton (Ohio). Janney was awarded a scholarship to studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after she graduated from Kenyon College. Janney became a television star in 1999 as C. J. Cregg, a role she played on NBC's political drama The West Wing (2000-2006). She was awarded the award for four Primetime Emmy Awards for this part. Because of her character Margaret Scully, a Showtime actress on The period-based drama Masters of Sex, Janney received an award in 2014 for the Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Guest Actress In a Drama Series. The most notable role she played was her role as Bonnie Plunkett.
