Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also a seasoned public speech writer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos with commentary that analyze the representations of women that are prevalent in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. She also serves as the director of operations. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. But, she also discusses issues of specific harassment of women on the internet as well as other communities which have been excluded. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based series that examined the gender roles in games and was then the victim of an online campaign to harass her. It was not enough to halt her. Instead, it increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critique. Many awards have been presented to her in recognition of her contributions to the field she have made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit examines how women are depicted in pop culture today.
